Again I am sharing a devotion from my California Friend, Loren. I hope you will take the time to read it and that you will enjoy it and be able to apply it to these days of "fear" and uncertainty. God Bless you all...
“Do you have fears or do your fears have you?”
The question is not ‘do you have fears’ for we all have fears. But rather the question is ‘do your fears have you.’ Have your fears overcome you or are you overcoming your fears? When our fears have us they overcome us so that they are leading and guiding us in every move we take and every decision we make. It reminds me of the picture of walking a dog when you feel more like the dog is walking you. It takes the lead and is now in the forefront of your view. The bigger and stronger the dog the more control it has over you and your focus at that point. And our fears do much the same in our lives when we allow them to take the lead. So it is not that fears are the problem, but rather the problem arises when we allow them to take the lead, for it is then that they have us. They have our thoughts, our steps and our lives. Fears will come, pain will happen, and problems will present themselves. But, will we allow those things to overcome us so that we are operating out of them? We don’t have to. There is another way. We can overcome! So we must ask ourselves who is walking whom?
“God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change And though the mountains slip into the heart of the sea”
Psalm 46:1-2 NASB
The Hebrew meaning for the word fear in this verse means overcome by fear. The Lord does not ask that we don’t ever have fears. Fears are referenced hundreds of times in the bible, because He knew that we would have fears. He is well aware of the situations that come and of the fears that will arise. But He is asking that we would not be overcome by the fear and lose sight of who He is…a refuge and strength. Even when things change; even when the world is falling apart; even when our worlds are falling apart…even still we don’t have to fear. You don’t have to fear! He is with you! He is present!!...So what does that mean? Everything if you know who He is!! So Know Him and His power so that in the midst of fears, in the midst of change, in the midst of pain You would be led by Him rather than your fears. He has overcome! With Him you can overcome even this fear!
